Massage/Reiki
Many people living with HIV/AIDS are
still considered "untouchable" by their family and friends.
Massage, reiki and aromatherapy by certified therapists provides an
opportunity for persons infected and affected with the virus to experience
the power of loving human touch, which often helps to access one's deeper
spirituality. It can be very helpful in easing pain, tension, and
lowering blood pressure as well as an overall relaxation of the body.
Reiki, a Japanese word for "Universal Life Force Energy," is the
ancient art of unlocking the energy sources within the body and creating a
freer flow of natural health and creativity. Massage and Reiki are
also available for family members and caregivers of those living with the
virus.
Foot
Reflexology
“Experience Foot Reflexology….for deep relaxation and total restoration”.
Foot reflexology is a simple, yet highly effective technique of applying a firm but gentle pressure to specific reflex points on the foot. It’s sole purpose is to reduce stress by placing the body into a deep state of relaxation so that it will function naturally. This process stimulates and releases vital energy to organs, glands, muscles, bones and systems, assisting the body to continually renew itself. Foot reflexology is now being acknowledged all over the world as a respected, effective and deeply relaxing form of health maintenance.

Spiritual Direction
Spiritual Direction is a process
involving a one-on-one relationship with a trained spiritual director to
purposely look at one's life and choices in light of the Spirit's presence
and urgings. Growth in honoring one's deepest spirit and desires is
the focus, resulting in a new sense of wholeness and wellness. Such
meetings usually occur on a consistent basis (i.e., monthly).

Pastoral Care
These sessions are an opportunity to
companion individuals infected and affected with HIV/AIDS in nourishing
ways, enhancing their overall well being, including their personal
spirituality. The meetings can take place at SILOAM or at hospitals,
residences, nursing homes or a person's home. This pastoral
relationship provides a safe, caring environment to deal with situations
related to living and dying with HIV/AIDS.

Home Visits
Qualified SILOAM staff members and
volunteers conduct home visits which provide a sense of caring and
continuity with SILOAM programs when an HIV/AIDS infected or affected
person becomes homebound. Regular visits facilitate an opportunity
for the client and his/her caregivers (family, friends, etc.) to make some
sense of the virus in their lives. The relationship also provides
the opportunity for staff members to recommend or refer clients to other
programs when appropriate. ("Home" for some persons living
with the virus may be a residence or hospice facility.)
